Clinicians on FHIR: The Connectathon
24th May @ 09:30 - 16:00 BSTFree
We’re delighted to be bringing back a FULL day of learning focusing on Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR)
Following the popularity of our Clinicians on FHIR event last November, we are again joining forces with Orion Health to host the next step in the series – a Clinical Connectathon! The event will aim to promote an understanding of FHIR among clinicians, equipping them to access and share clinical information at the point of care.
Spend the morning refreshing your knowledge of FHIR and available tooling before forming groups for the afternoon ‘connectathon’ session, where you will have the chance to put learning into practice and build FHIR clinical models using ClinFHIR, with a focus on specific applications of FHIR profiles, such as Problem Lists.
Sessions will be led by Dr David Hay, FHIR Evangelist and Orion Health Product Strategist, and Dr Amir Mehrkar, Clinical Co-Chair of INTEROPen and NHS Digital Clinical Lead for Interoperability, supported by Dr Munish Jokhani, Clinical Lead for FHIR Curation, NHS Digital.
Agenda (subject to change)
08.30 – 09.30: Registration & Refreshments
09.30 – 09.40: Welcome from Dr Amir Mehrkar
09.40 – 10.40: FHIR Basics and Updates – Dr David Hay
This session will provide a background to FHIR, ensuring that everyone present is familiar with the basics of FHIR and how it relates to the subject at hand. It will also cover some of the newer related standards that are emerging, such as SMART, CDS-Hooks and ‘Sync for Science’.
10.40 – 11.00: INTEROPen FHIR Curation Work – Dr Munish Jokhani
A look at how a multi-disciplinary team of industry-wide volunteers are working together to create national CareConnect FHIR profiles
11.00 – 11.20: Morning Beak
11.20 – 12.15: A demonstration of using ClinFHIR to represent different ways of recording clinical information in FHIR (including practical exercises) – Dr David Hay
This will cover:
Using the Logical modeler to create a ‘profiled’ resource. (This is not a ‘real’ profile, but can do similar things in a simpler way, and can be converted to a real profile if required). Describe the relationship of Logical models and Profiles.
Using the Scenario Builder to builds complex multi-resource representations for clinical scenarios (read more about this feature here)
12.15 – 13.00: Lunch
13.00 -13.30: Creating the Scenario – Dr Amir Mehrkar
Describing the overall clinical scenario to be exercised (Problem List) and the possible ways (patterns) that they could be represented in FHIR.
13.30 – 15.00: Connectathon!
In groups, delegates will be asked to use the different patterns to build scenarios for all the sample scenarios and use conman to record the findings. [Refreshments will be provided during group work]
15.00- 16.00: Report back and conclusions.
16.00 – 18.00: Networking drinks (unlimited bar!)
For a head start on the learning and a taste of what to expect, take a peek at the video modules from our last Clinicians on FHIR event and the content shared at InteropSummit 2017; we strongly recommend attendees revisit the Day 1 videos here, including David Hay’s “Why you WANT to be on FHIR”, in preparation for this event.
This event is FREE to attend – ticket charges will be refunded on attendance (or if cancelled by 18th May).
Lunch, refreshments and post-event drinks will be provided courtesy of Orion Health.
We hope to see you there – don’t forget your laptops!
